Wart Treatments

Wart Treatment in Cranbourne and Croydon

Warts are a very common small skin growth caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). In some cases they clear up on their own within a couple of years, but this isn’t always the case. If you have one or a number of warts, it’s recommended to have them looked at by a doctor.

Warts are particularly common in childhood, particularly in children ages 12-16. The face, feet, knees and hands are the most commonly affected areas.

How do I know if I have a wart?

The look of a wart depends largely on what type of wart it is – but the characteristics can include:

  • A small, raised bump on the skin.
  • The average size can range from one to 10 millimetres.
  • The wart may have a rough or smooth surface.
  • Warts can occur singly or in clusters.
  • In some cases, the wart may itch.

What options are there for wart treatments?

If your wart is bothering you, has been around for more than two years, or you have a number of warts then we recommend seeking treatment. Your GP can help by administering cryotherapy. Cryotherapy freezes the warts with liquid nitrogen and is highly effective. Most warts require 1 to 4 treatments with 1 to 3 weeks in between.

What about genital warts?

This is definitely something you should have checked out. We don’t recommend taking a ‘wait and see’ approach with this. If an adult female has a genital wart, your doctor may also suggest administering a pap test to screen for cervical cancer.

I have heard of a vaccine that has something to do with warts, can you tell me about it?

The Gardasil Vaccine is now recommended for teenage girls to provide protection against HPV strains associated with genital warts and cervical cancer.

The doctors that consult at HealthMint can help you by administering cryotherapy. Cryotherapy freezes the warts with liquid nitrogen and is highly effective. Most warts require 1 to 4 treatments with 1 to 3 weeks in between.
