Can a GP diagnose ADHD?
GP’s don’t formally diagnose ADHD and rather that is done by a psychiatrist. GPs however do provide assessment, referral, and ongoing care/ prescribing of any required medications.
Can a GP prescribe ADHD medication?
Yes — under a shared care arrangement, once a psychiatrist has diagnosed ADHD and approved GP prescribing.
What if I don’t live near the clinic?
You don’t need to be right next door to access our care.
We regularly support patients across Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs and can absolutely help coordinate your ADHD assessment and ongoing management, even if you’re a bit further away. Our goal is to make care as accessible and practical as possible, without unnecessary barriers.
What if I already have a GP?
We’d love to support you with all aspects of your care, and in many cases we can also become your regular GP if that’s the right fit for you.
However, if you already have a GP you know and trust, that’s absolutely fine. If your current GP doesn’t provide ADHD prescribing or specialist ADHD care, we can manage that part of your treatment while you continue seeing them for your general health needs.
Which GP’s offer this service at HealthMint?
All three of our doctors at Croydon, Dr Somayeh, Dr Susan and Dr Paul and specifically Dr Terence, Dr Katarzyna and Dr Rizni at Cranbourne are all experienced in providing this service and are available to support you.
If you are an existing patient of the clinic, please call reception to book in with your regular doctor. Our other GP’s may be able to offer this service to their regular patients.

How long does the consultation take?
Initial assessments are typically around 30 minutes.
Is this covered by Medicare?
Most GP consultations are eligible for Medicare rebates.

ADHD care for children and teenagers
Dr Susan Wang and Dr Paul Tescher at HealthMint Croydon welcome children and teenagers aged 6–17 for ADHD care. Stimulant prescribing options depend on the patient’s age and clinical needs.
Children aged 6–15
Dr Susan provides ongoing ADHD management and care coordination, but does not prescribe stimulant medication for this age group. If needed, she can assist with a referral to a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
Dr Paul may prescribe stimulant medication where clinically appropriate and once the required assessment and prescribing steps have been completed.
Teenagers aged 16–17
Both Dr Susan and Dr Paul may prescribe stimulant medication where clinically appropriate and once the required assessment and prescribing steps have been completed.
The other independent doctors consulting at HealthMint do not prescribe stimulant medication for patients under 18.
